U.S. Senator. He graduated from the law department of Cumberland University in 1912, admitted to the bar and opened a legal firm in Clovis, New Mexico, in 1916. He was assistant attorney general of New Mexico, (1917-18), collector of internal revenue, (1919-22), district judge of the ninth judicial district of New Mexico, (1923-29) and a member of the State board of bar examiners, (1930-33). In 1933, he was elected as a as a Democrat to the U.S. Senate, serving until 1949. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was U.S. District Judge of New Mexico and served until his death.
