Major League Baseball Player. As an outfielder and infielder, making his debut with the Buffalo Bisons on August 11, 1881. For nine seasons, he played with the Buffalo Bisons in 1881, Pittsburgh Alleghenys (1882-84), Brooklyn Greys (1885-87), Toledo Maumees in 1890 and Pittsburgh Pirates in 1892. He was the league batting champion with a .357 average and hits champion in 1883. He ended his career with a total of 861 hits, 607 runs scored, 14 homeruns, 299 runs batted in and a .299 batting average. In retirement, he became an umpire in the Majors in 1894 and 1898 to 1900, totaling 429 games.
