U.S. Congressman. Educated at the Iron City Business College, he ran a lumber company in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. During the Civil War, he served in a company of volunteers organized to defend Confederate expected invasion of Pennsylvania. After the war, he studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1873 and commenced to practice law in Ebensburg, Pennsylvania. He also was an attorney for the Pennsylvania State superior and supreme courts, plus the US Federal courts. He served as burgess of Ebensburg Borough, was solicitor for the Pennsylvania Railroad and was president of the board of directors of the First National Bank of Ebensburg. In 1901, he was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-seventh and Fifty-eighth Congresses, serving until 1905. Declining to be a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 60.
