Paul J. Baumgartel, 77, of Pleasantville, passed away Wednesday peacefully with his family by his side after a short illness.

He had resided in Pleasantville his entire life. In his earlier years he was a very devoted baseball player. He had a pitching try out with the Philadelphia athletics, then pitched for the Pleasantville A's for years. He also played semi pro football for the Jokers. He continued his love for baseball by coaching little league baseball in North Pleasantville.

He retired from Pleasantville fire dept. as deputy chef after 28 years. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing and camping at Butterfly campground with his beloved wife, and family.

He married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Baumgartel in 1953, they were married for 55 years, and now are reunited again in heaven. Paul was also predeceased by parents Paul and Myrtle Baumgartel and brother David Baumgartel.

Survivors include his sister Janet (George) Cramer, sister in- law Kathy (David) Bryan, daughter Judy (Skip) Ridley, son Paul Baumgartel(Alma), son Don Baumgartel, son Richie (Leslie) Baumgartel; grandchildren, Donnie (Melissa), Kristi (Mike) Stevi-Lynn (Matt), Ashley, Paul Justin, Jenna, Britney, and Sean; great grand children Haley, Angelina, Makayla, Caleb, Mikey, Kristian, Nicholas, Jonathan, Tyler and nephews David and Darren Baumgartel. He also leaves behind his little sidekick Nicky, his little poodle who was always by his side.

A graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, in Pleasantville.
