U.S. Congressman. Moving with his parents to a farm in Minnesota, in 1901, he attended the University of Washington and the U.S. Naval Academy. He was a civil engineer, engaged in cattle raising, agricultural pursuits and was a member of the Minnesota State House of Representatives in 1935. In 1939, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-sixth Congress and to the next eleven succeeding Congresses, serving until 1963. After leaving politics, Andersen retired to Virginia, ran a small business and managed his farming interests until his death at age 81.
