World War I Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in Baldavie, Boyndie, Scotland, he served as a Corporal in the 3rd Toronto Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Forces. On November 6, 1917, during the Battle of Passchendaele, Belgium, Corporal Barron's unit was held up by three German machine-guns. Corporal Barron opened fire on them at point-blank range, rushed the guns, killed four of the crew and captured the remainder. He then turned one of the captured guns on the retiring enemy, causing severe casualties which enabled the advance to continue. For most prestigious gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was promoted Sergeant and awarded the Victoria Cross on January 11, 1918. He later served as a Sergeant Major in the Royal Regiment of Canada during World War II. He died at age 64 in Toronto, Canada.
