U.S. Congressman. He was elected as a Republican from Connecticut to the Seventy-sixth Congress, serving from January 3, 1939 to January 3, 1941. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed his medical interests until his death at age 64. He graduated from Amherst College in 1899, Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia in 1905 and was a member of the faculty of Attleboro High School from 1899 to 1900. During World War I at age 41, he served as regimental surgeon in the 214th Engineers, 14th Division, U.S. Army in 1918 for one year. After the war, he was practicing physician in Old Greenwich, Connecticut and a member of the Connecticut State House of Representatives from 1917 to 1919 and from 1921 to 1923. He married three times: Anne Tyrell Christy, married 1910; Anne Clara Snyder, married in 1919 and Lillian V. Lounsbury, married in 1939. With his marriage to Anne Clara Snyder, he became the stepfather of Clare Booth Luce, who also served Connecticut in the United States Congress from 1942 to 1946
