US Senator, Mississippi Governor. Served as a United States Senator from Mississippi from 1935 to 1947. Also served as a Member of the Mississippi State Senate from 1908 to 1912, Lieutenant Governor of Mississippi from 1912 to 1916, Delegate to the Democratic National Convention from Mississippi in 1928, 1940, and 1944, and Governor of Mississippi from 1916 to 1920, and 1928 to 1932. In 1947 the senate refused to seat him and started an investigation of his 1946 re-election campaign. He was the author of the book, "Take Your Choice, Separation Or Mongrelization."
