US Congressman. Born in Ontario, Canada, he moved with his parents to Calumet County, Wisconsin, in 1856. During the Civil War, he served as a Private in Company A, 2nd Wisconsin Cavalry, under the command of General A. George Custer. After the war, he was a farmer until he relocated to Neenah, Wisconsin, in 1881, where he engaged in business. He was Mayor of Neenah in 1889, a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly (1891-92) and a delegate to the Republican National Convention at Minneapolis, in 1892. In 18895, he was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-fourth Congress, serving until 1897. After his term, he was commander of the Grand Army of the Republic for Department of Wisconsin, (1915-16), a manufacturer of print paper at Menasha, Wisconsin and president of the Alexandria Paper Company Alexandria, Indiana. He died at age 69 in Neenah, Wisconsin.
