Mexican Campaign (Vera Cruz) Medal of Honor Recipient. He was in the United States Navy. He served as a Boatswain's Mate Second Class. His citation reads "On board the USS Utah, Nickerson showed extraordinary heroism in the line of his profession during the seizure of Vera Cruz, Mexico, 21 April 1914."
