Sept. 6, 1923-June 30, 2011

Ellettsville--Earl Sewell, 87, of Ellettsville, formerly of Brownstown, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Thursday, June 30, 2011.
Earl was born in Brownstown on September 6, 1923, into the home of Moses N. and Theresa (Edwards) Sewell. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Earl was a teacher in the Jackson County School Corp. and was the principal at Courtland Elementary. His love of sports was passed down as a basketball coach in the school corporation. He was an avid I.U. fan, loved farming, reading, gardening, sports and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of the Ellettsville Christian Church and also the American Legion in Seymour.
Earl is survived by his wife, Joy Delight (Stewart) Sewell, of Ellettsville; a son, Matthew Sewell (Beth), of Ellettsville; and grandchildren, Joan Chaffin, Jana Chaffin and Joy Sewell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Keith Sewell and Moses Sewell Jr.; and sisters, Lorene Murray and Helen Sewell.
Visitation will be at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville on Tuesday, July 5, 2011, from 4-8 p.m. and on Wednesday, July 6, 2011, from 11-2 at Brownstown Christian Church in Brownstown. Funerla services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the church with Pastor Chad Babbert officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery. Brownstown services will be handled by Winklepleck-Weesner Funeral Home in Brownstown.
Memorials can be made to Ellettsville Christian Church, Brownstown Christian Church or Bloomington Hospice.
