Indian Campaigns Medal of Honor Recipient. He was a First Sergeant in the United States Army. He was awarded the Medal of Honor as a Sergeant in Company D, 4th US Cavalry for action on May 15, 1886 at Santa Cruz Mountains, Mexico. His citation reads "Conspicuous gallantry during an attack on a hostile Apache Indian camp; seriously wounded."
