Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Served during the Civil War as a Corporal in Company I, 14th Michigan Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at the Battle of Bentonville, North Carolina on March 19, 1865. His citation reads "In a charge, captured the flag of the 40th North Carolina (C.S.A.), the flag being taken in a personal encounter with an officer who carried and defended it". His Medal was awarded to him on August 26, 1898.
