U.S. Congressman. He moved with his parents to Pender, Nebraska, in 1891, attended the University of Nebraska (1904-07), worked at the Lincoln newspaper, in 1910 and in the fuel business in 1913. He served as Lincoln City Commissioner, department of public safety, (1935-37) and was Mayor of Lincoln in (1937-40). In 1940, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-seventh Congress, serving until 1943. An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he resumed his interest in the retail fuel business until his death at age 71.
