Canadian politician and businessman. Born in Montreal, on July 27, 1837. He studied at the Saint-Sulpice college in Montreal. Landowner and businessman, he directed a farm dedicated to the cattle breeding and horses of race on the fields of the Saint-Louis slope and the Sainte-Catherine hill. Writer with the newspaper “L’Ordre” from 1858 to 1861. Vice-president of the company of publication the Newspaper. Founder of the city of Outremont in 1875. Promoter and co-owner of a railroad for the colonization of the north of Montreal. Promoter of Yukon Trust Co in 1901. Cofounder of the Provincial Bank of Canada. He was elected Conservative representative to the Legislative Assembly of Québec for the district of Hochelaga in 1867. Re-elected in 1871. Also elected for the same district to the House of Commons in the elections of 1872, but he had to resign in 1874 following the abolition of dual mandate. Re-elected to the Legislative Assembly in 1875, he acted as its Speaker from November 10, 1876 to May 1, 1878. Re-elected in 1878 and without opposition in 1881. He did not represent himself in 1886. Appointed Commissioner of Agriculture and Colonization in the cabinet of Boucher de Boucherville on December 21, 1891, a post he kept in the successive cabinets of Taillon and Flynn. He was defeated in Beauharnois in 1897. President of the Saint-Jean-Baptiste Society of Montreal in 1882. He died in Outremont, on July 19, 1915.
