U.S. Congressman. He graduated from an Ohio College, studied law, was admitted to the bar, taught school for a time in Kentucky and then moved to Lexington, Missouri, in 1853. There he was professor of mathematics and moral philosophy in Masonic College, (1855-56) and pastor of the local Methodist Church. In 1856, he was elected as a candidate of the American Party to the Thirty-fourth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of John G. Miller, serving until 1857. Not a candidate for reelection, he moved to New York City and became vice president of the gold board, in 1861. Due to ill health, he moved to Utah, and shortly thereafter returned to Missouri, where he died at age 48.
