Major League Baseball Player. He played as a pitcher his entire career with the Chicago White Sox from 1937-42 and 1946-47, compiling a lifetime record of 63-64 with a 3.59 earned run average. He married Dorothy Comiskey, granddaughter of franchise founder Charles Comiskey and the daughter of club president and treasurer Grace Comiskey (she signed his paychecks) on Oct. 9, 1941. His best year was 1939, when he was 15-8 with a 3.70 ERA. The following season he pitched 280 innings and went 14-18 with a 3.11 ERA with 19 complete games in 33 starts. He spent three years in the Navy in 1943-45. He became director of the White Sox's minor-league operations late in 1947 and then a vice president in 1956. He held that position until Bill Veeck purchased the club in 1959.
