U.S. Congressman. Successful in the lumber and banking business, he served as a Mayor of West Bay City, Michigan, (1881-84) and as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention, in 1884. In 1885, he was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-ninth and Fiftieth Congresses, serving until 1889. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed his former business pursuits until his death at age 76.
