French officer and hero of the Seven Years War in America. Knight of the Royal and Military Order of Saint-Louis.
Born on March 7, 1727 in Maravat in the French region of Gascogne, he was the son of Paul de Preyssac, lord of Cadeihan, Maravat and Touron. He received his commission of lieutenant on October 3, 1744 and he was promoted captain November 12, 1746 with the responsibility of a company of riflemen in the 2nd Battalion of the Regiment of Berry.
Unusual fact, there were four Preyssac brothers (two in the Regiment of Berry and two in the Regiment of Guyenne) and a cousin of the same name (in the Regiment of Berry) who all took part in the Battle of Sainte-Foy. His brother Lambert Preyssac was wounded there while Louis Preyssac de Bonneau, another brother in the Regiment of Guyenne, had been given the mission by General Lévis General to negotiate with the general the exchange of prisoners after this battle. He was made a knight of Saint-Louis on February 12, 1760, but he hardly benefitted very long from his new statute because he was mortally wounded in Sainte-Foy.
He died on May 9, 1760. He is buried in the cemetery of the General Hospital of Quebec, from which a part called "Cemetery of the Heroes," became in 2001 the Memorial of the Seven Years War.
