U.S. Congressman. He was successful in mercantile pursuits in Boston, when elected as an American Party candidate to the Thirty-fourth Congress and as a Republican to the Thirty-fifth Congress, serving (1855-59). After his term, he was appointed assistant appraiser in the Boston Customhouse in 1861 and was a member of the Massachusetts State House of Representatives, (1870-71).
