U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Mount St. Mary’s College, in 1833 and engaged in the hardware business. He was a prominent Union leader in Maryland, one of the founders of the First National Bank of Maryland, plus a director of several insurance companies and manufacturing companies. In 1873, he was elected as a Republican to the Forty-third Congress, serving until 1875. Not a candidate for re-election, he resumed his former business pursuits until his death at age 62.
