Samuel married Hannah Russell on 5 December 1805. They had 12 known children.

Samuel and Hannah were visiting their daughter Eunice and Eunice’s husband William Hanson when both Samuel and Hannah became afflicted with cholera and both died, three days apart; Eunice on Sept. 29 and Samuel on October 2. Their bodies were transported back to their home in Williamstown, VT for burial in East Hill Cemetery there. It was noted that Eunice’s body was very heavy because “it had petrified,” according to her aunt Lucy (Mrs. Earl) Holt.

Samuel and his brother David married sisters. On April 14, 1806 Samuel bought, from his father, Lot No. 12 in Williamstown, where he built a brick house for his home.
