US Senator. Joseph Rosier was the Superintendent of the Fairmont (Marion County), West Virginia public schools and was born near Wilsonburg in Harrison County, WV. He grew up on a farm in that county, attending public schools during the winter terms and doing farm work the rest of the year. He attended the Salem-graded school for three terms, and later the Salem Academy for a number of terms. He began teaching in the fal of 1890 and was the principal of the Cherry Camp school in Harrison County. In 1891 he was appointed principal of the Salem graded school, which position he held for four years. He graduated from Salem College in 1895. Mr. Rosier was also a member of the County Board of Examiner (Harrison County); County Superintendent of Harrison County (1 term); member of the faculty of Salem College (2 years); Instructor in the Fairmont Normal School (which would become Fairmont State University) for three years; and for over thirteen years, the Superintent of Fairmont public schools. He belonged to several professional and educational organizations.

He served as a United States Senator from West Virginia from 1941 to 1942. He also served as a member of the West Virginia State Legislature.

To honor his lifelong commitment to public service, especially to educating youth, and to recognize his distinguished tenure as the Fairmont Normal School, Fairmont State University decided its football facility to him, naming it Rosier Field.
