Sudden death of Dr. Gilmore a shock to her family and friends –

The many friends of Dr Vera Gilmore were shocked Saturday night, when the word of her death was passed about town. She had been in the best of health and the fact of her death was almost unbelievable. Dr. Gilmore had prepared to attend the bridge luncheon given Saturday at the Catholic school auditorium and was standing in front of the mirror at her home putting on her hat when she suffered a stroke. A doctor was called immediately and she seemed to rally from the effects of this stroke but about two o'clock she suffered a second stroke and at 4 o'clock she had a third. She passed away about ten o'clock Saturday night.

Dr. Gilmore was a chiropractor and had been a resident of Herington for the pas fourteen years. She was quite well known and was very popular among all of her associates. She was a member of the Eastern Star and also of the Business and Professional Women's Club of this city.

She became a member of Eastern Star here and took an active part whenever it was possible for her to attend. She became a doctor of chiropractic in 1914 and has practiced her profession ever since with gratifying results. She is a member of the Chiropractic state board of examiners.

The funeral services were held at one o'clock Wednesday afternoon from the Christian Church with Rev D. McFarlane officiating. The remains were taken to Wichita, where they were interred in the Old Mission Mausoleum.

Verna Arvilla Bliss, eldest daughter of John S and Martha Bliss was born at Clay Center, Kansas on August 3, 1879 and passed away at her home in Herington on February 7, 1931 at the age of 51 years, 6 months and four days.

With her parents, she moved to Oklahoma in 1894 where she taught school for a number of years. On September 4, 1898 she was united in marriage to Dr Lewis L. Gilmore and to this union three children were born, Norma E., Mrs. Marie Roney of Wichita, Kansas and Francis Arthur of Bremerton, Washington, all of whom survive her.

She became a member of the Christian Church at Caldwell under the ministry of Rev. B. A. Channer and when the family moved here in 1916 she transferred her membership here.

Besides her immediate family she leaves three sisters, Mrs. Mamie Meeker of Wichita, Kansas, Mrs. Ada Baehler of Monument, Kansas and Mrs. Harold Converse of Kansas City and eight brothers, J. Frank, James A., Charles M., and Roy E. all of Lookout, Oklahoma and Harry S., Floyd C., Lee L., and Ralph all of Avard, Oklahoma.
