Singer. She gained notoriety for the risque' recording legacy that she has left behind. She was born in Mississippi, but raised in Birmingham, Alabama. While a young woman in her 20s, Bogan travelled to New York City where she made her first recordings for the OKeh Record label. Later, she moved to Chicago, Illinois where she recorded for the Paramount, Brunswick, and Banner Record labels. When her recording career began to wane in the mid 1930's, she returned to Birmingham where she managed the musical group, "Bogan's Birmingham Busters." She moved to Southern California in 1948 and lived there until her death later that year from coronary sclerosis at the age of 51. She is best known for an "x-rated" song she recorded in the 1930's known as the "Shave 'Em Dry Blues."
