Filmmaker. He is considered to be the most infuential avant-garde filmmaker of the 20th centery. He revolutionized the use abstract filmmaking. His methods included hand-painting black frames of 16 mm film, gluing objects to film and scratching blank film. He was a professor at the University of Colorado since 1981, retiring to Canada in 2002. His funeral was held March 14, 2003 at St. Mary's Anglican Church in Victora, British Columbia.
