Indian Mutiny Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Private, in the 95th Regiment, Sherwood Foresters. On January 6, 1858, at the capture of the town of Rowa, India, Private McQuirt was dangerously wounded in a hand-to-hand fight with three men, of whom he killed one, wounded another while protecting comrades in the success of the battle. For most prestigious gallantry, he was awarded the Victoria Cross Medal.
