U.S. Senator. He graduated from the University of Colorado in 1927, from its law school in 1929, was admitted to the bar in 1929 and commenced to practice of law in Pueblo, Colorado. He was the director of the First Federal Savings & Loan Association in 1934, attorney of Prowers County, in 1934 and Lamar City Attorney, (1937-41). During World War II, he served as a Major in the United States Army Air Corps, (1942-46). After the war, he was district attorney of the fifteenth judicial district, (1946-48) vice chairman of the Colorado State Board of Paroles, (1951-55) and Lieutenant Governor of Colorado, (1951-55). In 1955, he was elected as a Republican to the United States Senate, serving until 1973. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he retired from public service.
