William "Bill" Henry Carpenter Sr., 69, of Niota, died Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, at Parkwest Hospital in Knoxville.

A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Thomas Henry and Martha Mabra Warren Carpenter, and was preceded in death by his wife, Lynda Lou Hope Carpenter. He was a former employee of Timber Tech and was a member of Tellico Avenue Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Junior Vaughn of Niota, and Khristie and Kenny Morgan of Athens; three sons and daughters-in-law, Tony and Sharon Dorsey, Bo and Tammy Carpenter and Michael and Samantha Carpenter, all of Niota; five grandchildren, Casey and Quinton Fields, T.J. Dorsey, Amanda Long and Jessica Martin; 10 great-grandchildren, Chase and Chandler Morgan, Ashlee and Maddilynn Carpenter, Hayden and Braxton Martin, Kayleigh, Destin and Billy Joe Long and Steven Dorsey; one sister and brother-in-law, Samme and Marvin Templin of Athens; special friends, Mary Cagle and Robert and Mary Miller; and several nieces and nephews.

Family visitation and a Celebration of Life Service will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home with the Rev. Marvin West officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tellico Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund, 1605 Tellico Ave., Athens, TN 37303.

Ziegler Funeral Home of Athens is in charge of arrangements.
