Vietnamese religious leader and Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. An native of Trang-Duê, near Hanoi, he was ordained, on April 1, 1933. He was consecrated titular bishop of Sinao and appointed apostolic vicar of Hanoi, on August 15, 1950. He was promoted to the metropolitan see of Hanoi, on November 24, 1960. Having been reserved in pectore when the April 28, 1976 consistory was announced, he was created cardinal by Pope Paul VI next May 24. He participated in both conclaves of 1978. He passed away in his episcopal city.
