U.S. Congressman, Continental Army Brigadier General. Born in Monmouth, New Jersey during the Revolutionary War he commanded a company of militia at the Battles of Germantown, Monmouth, Germantown and attained the rank of Brigadier General of the Monmouth Brigade. After the war, he was a member of the New Jersey State General Assembly, (1801-07). In 1809, he was elected as a Republican to the Eleventh Congress and served until his death from a stroke at age 57 in New Jersey.
