Indian Mutiny Victoria Cross Recipient. He served as a Captain in the Royal Regiment of Artillery, British Army. At Lucknow, India, September 25, 1857, Captain Maude steadily led on his men and bore down on the desperate opposition of the enemy, though one third of his artillerymen were loss. He took on the dangers of the task with nerve and coolness, helping his Army to advance. For gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Victoria Cross Medal and later achieved the rank of Colonel.
