Monegasque Sovereign. First-son son of Prince Honorè III, he had a rather difficult youth due to the French revolutionary movements of 1789. In fact, residing in Paris, he was unaware victim of the dictatorial regime established in the new republic. However, after a long captivity, thanks to the influence of Napoleon Bonaparte, at that time First Consul, he was freed and reintegrated into the Parisian aristocracy. Only in 1814, following the Congress of Vienna, he ascended to the throne with the name Honore IV and the Principality regained a partial autonomy under the protection of the Kingdom of Sardinia after long years of subservience to France.
