U.S. Congressman. Born in Bel Air, Maryland, he graduated from the medical department of the University of Maryland in 1816, practiced medicine in Harford, Baltimore and also engaged in agricultural pursuits. During the War of 1812, he served as a Lieutenant in the Maryland Regiment, US Army. After the war, he entered local politics and was elected as a Whig to the Twenty-eighth Congress, serving (1843-45). Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of medicine and also engaged in agricultural pursuits until his death at age 72 in Perryman, Maryland.
