Army Specialist Thompson was assigned to the 946th Transportation Company, U.S. Army Reserve, Lewes, Delaware.
Thompson was injured on August 30 when his vehicle was traveling in a convoy southbound towards Cedaril in Iraq. A civilian vehicle passing the convoy split between the lead vehicle in the convoy and an approaching Iraqi truck sending both vehicles to the side of the road. The Iraqi vehicle over-corrected turning and began sliding down the road, hitting the second truck in the convoy - the vehicle Thompson was driving.
He was medically evacuated to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. where he died of his injuries.
Jarrett graduated from Kent County High School in 1993. The following year, he joined the active-duty Army, serving a two-year stint at Fort Campbell, Ky.
After a break in service, Jarrett joined the Army Reserve in January 2000.
As a civilian, he was a design engineer at Ashland Equipment Inc. in Belcamp, Md. Jarrett worked hard but knew how to have fun, too. He appreciated good beer and good music, and was a guitar player himself; Elvis and the Grateful Dead were his favorites.
A military history buff, Jarrett recently had taken up brewing and golf, and was making plans to get his pilot's license. The Army awarded him the Bronze Star. Jarrett is survived by his wife, Kelly, and two sons, 6 and 2.
