Spanish-American Medal of Honor Recipient. He served in the United States Army during the War with Spain as a Sergeant Major in the 10th United States Cavalry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at Santiago, Cuba, on July 1, 1898. His citation reads "Left cover and, under fire, rescued a wounded comrade from drowning." The date that his Medal was awarded to him was unrecorded.
