U.S. Congressman. Moving to Natchez, Mississippi, he taught school, studied law, was admitted to the bar 1842 and commenced practicing law. He was a member of the Wisconsin State House of Representatives (1867 to 1869). Moving to Missouri in 1870, he was elected as a Greenbacker to the Forty-seventh Congress in 1881, serving until 1883. An unsuccessful for reelection, he resumed the practice of law until his death.
