U.S. Congresswoman. Born the granddaughter of U.S. Senator Louis E. McComas, she was the first woman elected to Congress from Maryland. She attended Holton Arms School Washington, D.C., was chairman of Red Cross flood disaster committee of Williamsport, Maryland, in 1936 and Williamsport Town Commissioner, (1938-40). In 1941, she was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-seventh Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of her husband William D. Byron, serving until 1943. Not a candidate for reelection, she lived in retirement until her death at age 73. U.S. Congressman Goodloe E. Byron, was her son.
