U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Franklin College, in 1824, studied law, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Columbus, Georgia. He was elected as a Whig to the Twenty-sixth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Walter T. Colquitt and served from February 1 to March 3, 1841. After leaving Congress, he resumed the practice of law and was a member of the Georgia State Senate, in 1859. During the Civil War, he was a member of the House of Representatives of the First Confederate Congress, (1862-64). He died while attending as a delegate at the Georgia State constitutional convention in 1865.
