U.S. Congressman. Born the son of U.S. Senator John H. Bankhead, he graduated from Marion Alabama Military Institute, in 1916, from the University of Alabama, in 1919, from that University’s law department in 1920, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice in Jasper, Alabama. He was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention at Chicago in 1940. On January 3, 1941, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-seventh Congress, serving until February 1, 1941, when he resigned and resumed the practice of law. He was also the chairman of the board of Bankhead Mining Company, the Bankhead Development Company, president of Mammoth Packing Company, vice chairman, on the board of directors, First National Bank and Bankhead Broadcasting Radio Company until his death at age 91.
