Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Corporal in Company H, 37th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. At the Battle of Vicksburg, Mississippi on May 22, 1863, he showed Gallantry as a member of the "volunteer storming party" in the charge against the Confederate positions. He was one of six volunteers to receive the Medal of Honor for this action and was awarded on August 15, 1894.
