Professional Football Player. For eight seasons (1971 to 1978), he played at the linebacker and tight-end positions in the National Football League with the Houston Oilers, San Diego Chargers, Oakland Raiders and New Orleans Saints. Born Floyd Elliott Rice, he attended Sadie V. Thompson High School (Mississippi) and played collegiate football at Alcorn State University. Rice was selected by Houston during the 9th round of the 1971 NFL Draft and appeared in 102 regular season games, yielding a career-high 3 interceptions for 44 yards with San Diego in 1974. He experienced a Super Bowl championship (XI in 1977) while with Oakland, as he shared playing time with a Raiders' linebacker core which included Hall of Fame player Ted Hendricks, Phil Villapiano, Monte Johnson and Willie Hall. After retiring from football, he worked for the Wilkinson County Corrections Facility. He died following a battle with lung cancer.
