U.S. Congressman. Moving to Ohio with his parents in 1800, he engaged in agricultural pursuits in Barnesville. During the War of 1812, he served as Captain of the Belmont County Company of Colonel Delong's Regiment, U.S. Army. After the war, he entered politics and was a member of the Ohio State House of Representatives (1819-22, 24-25). In 1826, he was elected as an Adams candidate to the Nineteenth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of David Jennings, serving until 1827. Not seeking reelection, he served in the Ohio State Senate (1829, 37-41) and was a leaf-tobacco merchant until his death.
