US Representative from Pennsylvania. In 1924 he graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and was a teacher in the high schools of Homestead and McKeesport, Pennsylvania from 1924 to 1928. From 1942 to 1946 he served as mayor of McKeesport and was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-ninth Congress on May 21, 1946. Reelected to the Eightieth, Eighty-first and Eighty-second Congresses and served as chairman, Select Committee on Lobbying Activities until his death. His wife Vera Daerr Buchanan was elected to the House of Representatives but died while in office in 1955.
