Indiana Governor. As a Republican from Evansville, Indiana, he served two terms as Lieutenant Governor, beginning in 1973 and the Governor of the state of Indiana from 1981 to 1989. He was named Ambassador to Singapore and served in that capacity for three years. He graduated from Yale in 1940 and attended Harvard Business School before joining the United States Army in 1942 where he was commissioned a Major. He is the 11th Indiana governor to be buried in Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, Indiana.
