Noted Psychiatrist. He was a leader in the field of geriatric psychiatry who studied the physiological, psychological and social aspects of aging. He was best known for initiating the Duke Longitudinal Study in 1957, where for the next 25 years he studied the physical, mental, social and economic aspects of aging on more than 800 adults. He edited "The American Psychiatric Press Textbook of Geriatric Psychiatry" among his numerous writings.
