CUT DOWN IN YOUTH
DEATH OF MISS ALENA ALLEN
The Eldest Daughter of General T.S. Allen Died Sunday Night - An Accomplished Lady - The Funeral Wednesday.

Miss Alena Allen, oldest daughter of General and Mrs. T.S. Allen, died at the family residence, 246 Jackson street, shortly before ten o'clock last evening. She was twenty-three years of age and a very accomplished young lady. Her illness had been of long duration. About seven years ago she went to Germany with a sister where she studied music and languages. Upon her return four years ago it was discovered that her nervous system was greatly broken down. Immediate rest was demanded, but she steadily grew worse, the disease affecting the eyes and brain. Medical assistance brought no relief and she failed gradually until totally blind. A few months ago she went to Chicago for expert treatment, returning here a few weeks since, greatly exhausted. From that time on she failed more rapidly until the end.
Deceased was both an accomplished musician and a thorough scholar. She spoke German and French fluently and was a thorough scholar in both languages. Miss Allen was in every way an estimable young lady and her death will be a source of sincere sorrow to her many friends.
The funeral will take place at ten o'clock on Wednesday at the home, the Rev. John W. Greenwood of Trinity church officiating. A brother of the deceased, Thomas Allen, is now with a party of friends, camping in the Rocky mountains near Denver and the news of the death cannot reach him for several weeks. Another brother, Henry Allen of Chicago, has been notified and will be here for the funeral.
