Composer. He is known chiefly for his movie music. His "Warsaw Concerto" for piano and orchestra, written for the motion picture "Dangerous Moonlight" (1941), has enjoyed independent life as a concert piece. His other movie credits include "Fire Over England" (1937), "Goodbye, Mr. Chips" (1939), "Gaslight" (1940), "A Diary for Timothy" (1945), "Blithe Spirit" (1945), "Under Capricorn" (1949), "A Christmas Carol" (aka "Scrooge", 1951), "The Prince and the Showgirl" (1957), "The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone" (1961), "Waltz of the Toreadors" (1962), and "Life at the Top" (1965). Addinsell was born in London, England and studied at the Royal Academy of Music. He acquired film scoring technique while working at RKO studios in Hollywood from 1932 to 1935. Outside of the cinema he was noted as the accompanist of stage comedienne Joyce Grenfell, and wrote many songs for her.
