One of 13 Philadelphia firefighters who died in the horrendous Friedlander Leather Remnants factory fire on December 21st and 22nd, 1910. The walls of the factory collapsed on the firefighters. The fire remains the worst death toll in Philadelphia Fire Department history.

Relatives and friends, also Engine Company No. 23, and Philadelphia Fire Department in general, Fire Department Relief Association Fund, Insurance Patrol No. 2, Anti-Cobden Club of the 19th Ward; Union Council No. 9, Jr. O. U. A. M.; Kensington Herd, No. 2, B. O. O. B., and 19th Ward Republican Executive Committee, are invited to attend the funeral services, on Sunday, at 2 P. M. precisely, at 2 P. M., at his late residence, 433 West Norris St. Interment private at Northwood Cemetery."
His parents were John Kalberer and Catharine Stark, both born in Germany.
