One of 13 Philadelphia firefighters who died in the horrendous Friedlander Leather Remnants factory fire on December 21st and 22nd, 1910. The walls of the factory collapsed on the firefighters. The fire remains the worst death toll in Philadelphia Fire Department history.

Relatives and friends, also Insurance Patrol, No. 1; Truck Company No. 7, Firemen's Relief Association and the Hogan Pleasure Club, are invited to attend the funeral services, on Monday afternoon, at 2.30 o'clock, at his late residence, No. 2436 Stewart St. Interment private."
His parents were Joseph Matchinskey and M. Landes, both born in Germany.
